Travel
I love travel.
“And I was not off the map, I was choked with parchment, when I should have been where I belonged – with the monsters and the deep, outside the grip of longitude.”
- Catherynne M Valente, Under in the Mere
I love seeing new countries, their cultures present and past, their architecture and their food. I love sleeping on trains and exploring markets and haggling with new money: Chingghis Khan on the notes one week, traditionally dressed hilltribe women the next, and a wallet full of coins small and large. Severed cow heads for sale, language barriers, “toilets”, Australia’s flies and SE Asia’s humidity haven’t deterred me yet.
I have a long list of places I’d like to visit; really, it’s a prioritised list of everywhere, and I hope to get through it all while I live. Sometimes I get an itch and off I go to one of them. Once I went off for a year, but now I’m looking to settle in the UK for a long while, leaving in smaller bursts to places like Barcelona, Hawaii and Iran (my current top three).
I blog about travel. That’s mostly what the blog on this website is for, although I also talk about my fiction-writing. I take a lot of photos. (That time I went away for a year? 14,000 photos.)
Browse the blog, leave a comment or two; I love talking about the places I’ve been and hearing about other people’s exploits.
“My gas tank’s full like a head of stories and the road will never fail”
- SJ Tucker, Lady Vagabond
